‘Ideally our work attempts to weave a tale of connection to Earth and celebrates the beauty of plants and the natural environment.’
– Lulu Urquhart
Adam Hunt & Lulu Urquhart set out on a design partnership adventure almost 15 years ago. Both are passionate plant-lovers, environmentalists and landscape designers, so setting up a landscape design practice was a natural way for them to explore these interests.
Some of the building blocks to this unique landscape design business lie in Adam and Lulu’s continuing learning and passion for geometry, traditional plant-lore, sacred spaces and re-wilding.
They work in collaboration with leading experts and are known in the industry for putting sustainable practice and the land above all else.
‘I am interested in how we relate to the land through stories and local connection, how nature can inspire us to help with the understanding of a sense of place’.
– Adam Hunt
Urquhart & Hunt is a studio of landscape architects, designers and horticulturalists.
We are particularly adept at the development and creation of uplifting, future-orientated landscapes. We work on public, private and commercial projects all over the UK, Europe and the world.
Tom Petherick’s expertise in land management, ecology and design have led the partnership to projects in desert, temperate, sub-tropical and tropical climates. He is a celebrated author, including ‘Biodynamics in Practice’ and ‘Trees that Shape the World’, as well as a broadcaster, contributor for Indie Farmer and authority on organic and biodynamic horticulture and agriculture. His family farm in Devon holds educational workshops sharing his expertise as former Head Gardener of The Lost Gardens of Heligan in Cornwall.
Senior Landscape Architect
With many prestigious private residential projects under his belt, in the UK and Europe and 3 award winning Chelsea Flower Show gardens too, there is not much James can’t turn his hand to. Much of my inspiration comes from long multi-day hikes either solo or with friends, reflecting on the wild and plants in their natural habitats.
He has a keen interest in Architecture too, notably the work of Bijoy Jain and the paper architecture of Shigeru ban.
Graduate Landscape Architect
Miguel has a Master’s from Lisbon University and then furthered his Landscape Architecture studies at the University of Genova, Italy, before turning his attentions to project realisations of all scales. “My passion for the natural world extends to the ocean where I can be found windsurfing all year round come rain or shine.”
He has a social consciousness to help the wider community; both by greening the planet and helping our youth culture; and he’s an active volunteer for Surfaddict
Intern Landscape Architect
Being blessed with green fingers, much of Petra’s working years have been spent gardening, topped up by a degree in Landscape Architecture at the University of Gloucestershire and at SLU, Malmo. “You will find me outdoors as soon as the sun is out, on water venturing by kayak and on land, exploring with my backpack and tent.”
It is her combined plants and construction knowledge, passion and sunny outlook, which have earned her a sure place on the U & H team.
We work with a number of specialists in their field:
Susan Campbell – garden historian and authority on walled gardens.
Emma Clark – garden designer and writer specialising in Islamic gardens.
Paul Fountain – commercial manager.
Simon Parfett – environmental engineer and sustainable building consultant.
